This release fixes a critical bug due to the conflict between farad and Faradays (which both attempted to register themselves using the symbol "F"), and the unit registry has been improved so this kind of problem cannot arise in the future. Addition and subtraction of quantities with different but compatible units (like "m + ft") are now supported, the result will be expressed in the units of the left operand.
Conflict between farad and Faraday identified in quantities <0.72009-12-11T16:16:03.088183+00:002009-12-11T16:16:03.020899+00:00tag:launchpad.net,2009-12-11:/+announcement/4557Darren Dalehttps://launchpad.net/~dsdale24
F is commonly used as a symbol for both the farad and Faraday's constant. This is problematic for quanitities, which registers its units so they can be accessed using a string corresponding to the unit name or symbol. In this case, the Faraday constant was registered after the farad, so any quantity that was expressed in terms of farads would be incorrectly simplified using the Faraday constant.

This problem has been fixed in the trunk, and the registry has been improved to prevent overwriting previously registered names or symbols. F is now reserved for the farad. This problem has accelerated the schedule for releasing quantities-0.7.0, it should be available by 2009-12-13.
quantities repository format upgraded2009-10-16T19:14:44.915623+00:002009-10-16T19:15:04.041687+00:00tag:launchpad.net,2009-10-16:/+announcement/4073Darren Dalehttps://launchpad.net/~dsdale24
Quantities bzr repositories have been upgraded to the new 2a format.
